According to official documents, US tech giant Google has registered as a company with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

The tech giant registered with the SECP as social media companies were required to open their offices in the country under the ‘Illegal Online Content Removal and Blocking Rules (Procedure, Monitoring, and Safeguards), 2021’.
Information and Communications Technology Minister Syed Aminul Haq told Geo News that other social media platforms would also open offices in Pakistan following the registration of the American technology multinational.
TikTok will soon open its office in Pakistan. Companies are reluctant due to a lack of trust and inconsistent policies.
The government of Pakistan has mandated company registration under social media laws, and Google has registered as a company in this field.
The data will be safe if the Google server is built in Pakistan. All companies’ data, including social media, are stored outside Pakistan.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited the Asia Pacific headquarters of Meta – Facebook’s parent company – in Singapore earlier today.
During his visit, Balwal highlighted Pakistan’s IT sector’s achievements and massive potential. He strongly desires to increase cooperation between the social media giant and Pakistan.
