Although WhatsApp is a popular instant messaging app, it seems to be having some problems. Users in India are currently unable to send and receive messages through the app.
According to Indianexpress.com, the WhatsApp outage affects both personal and group chats. Unlike with personal chats, which appear to be unaffected, it currently seems impossible to send a message on a WhatsApp group.
Power outage detection website DownDetector confirms that thousands of WhatsApp users are experiencing problems. Affected areas based on the website’s heat map include major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Lucknow, but we fear the outage will affect users everywhere.
It also appears that WhatsApp Web has been affected by the outage, and we can confirm that the app’s web client is not connected anymore. Anyone trying to use WhatsApp Web will be greeted with an error message like the one shown below.
WhatsApp has yet to share an official statement about the same, but we should get more information soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
