Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has dissolved the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), Geo News reported on Saturday.
According to a federal government notification, the prime minister dissolved the commission and removed all officers of the board from office.
In 2019, President Dr. Arif Alvi issued a decree dissolving the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and establishing the PMC.
The ruling was extended until September 2020 when, in a joint session of parliament, the Imran Khan-led government passed two bills to replace the PMDC with the PMC amid opposition from the ruling coalition parties.
Soon after the Shehbaz Sharif government came to power, The News reported that the federal government had decided to convert the PMC into a PMC.
Sources told this correspondent that the Pakistan People’s Party wanted a revival of the PMDC.
