Since September 2022, PTA has blocked over 20,000 URLs in Pakistan

More than 20,000 URLs associated with illegal activity have been reviewed for blockage by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). The findings state that PTA has already reviewed over 1,226,890 URLs for blocking till December 22, 2022.

The records and analysis show that PTA handled 1,226,890 applications. 1,153,722 URLs were blocked by social media sites, while 62,692 URLs are still open. However, other social networking sites rejected the blocking of 10,467 URLs.

On the other side, PTA requested Facebook to block 140,221 URLs prior to blocking the URLs. Facebook restricted about 118,210 of those URLs.

PTA, on the other hand, supplied 11,950 URLs to Instagram till December 22nd, 2022. Instagram has blocked 8,944 of those URLs, leaving 2,836 of them open.

Speaking of which, PTA sent 67,166 URLs to Twitter to be blocked. Only 34,010 of them have been blocked on Twitter.
The PTA has asked YouTube to block 45,502 URLs by December. As a result, 4,714 of the 38,587 YouTube blacklisted URLs are still online.

According to the latest data, PTA has submitted 71,372 URLs to block TikTok as of December 2022. 70162 URLs have been blacklisted by TikTok. The social media platform rejected 251 URLs due to blocking.

Additionally, these sites have requested that certain URLs be blocked along with video likes and snacks. The total for both platforms is approximately 5,000. However, the site has refused to ban a selected URL.
