Southampton host Chelsea at St Mary’s Stadium tonight as they look to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men put in an encouraging performance against the Red Devils and probably deserved more from the game, so they were hoping to match those levels against the Blues tonight.
The Saints need their forward line to be more clinical in front of the but after missing several chances in their last outing. They have scored five goals in four league games this season but their four points feature offside positions as Chelsea struggle for consistency in these early games and to score first will have a big impact on tonight’s result.
Two goals from summer signing Raheem Sterling – his first for the club – saw Chelsea beat Leicester City 2-1 last time out, seeing off Conor Gallagher’s red card. . That win was followed by a 3-0 loss to Leeds, a form the Blues have yet to find this season. Chelsea are expected to be active in the final days of the transfer window as Thomas Tuchel looks to improve his squad after such a difficult start to the season.
