Zong Internet Packages Zong began its operations in 1991 as Packtel by Cable & Wireless. It was the first company to get a free license to operate mobile services in Pakistan. It provided AMPS services until 2004 when the company introduced GSM services. In 2003, Millicom Corporation acquired Pactel from Cable & Wireless. In January 2007, Millicom International Cellular S.A. Wanted to sell its stake in Paktel Limited to China Mobile. The sale meant a price for Pectel.
In May 2007, Paktel Limited was renamed as China Mobile Pakistan. In May 2007, China Mobile announced that it had increased its stake in CMPAC. On 1 April 2008, Paktel changed its name to Zong.
